Just like on an x-ray (radiograph), the LEFT side of the patient is on the RIGHT side of the image. Imagine you are coming in to examine a patient who is lying on an exam table. You introduce yourself and reach out your right hand to touch the adjacent part of their body. You are speaking to them with their feet closest to you and when you reach out your right hand, you will touch the left side of their body. We view CT images as if we are approaching from the feet also. Try to identify the muscles indicated on the normal right side of this patient, and see if you can find something on the left that looks abnormal.
