Imaging of women with abnormal vaginal bleeding

1. Recommendations vary depending on whether patient is pre or post-menopausal.

2. For most situations, ultrasound is the first imaging of choice. MR or CT are rarely indicated initially.

3. Determination of thickness of endometrial stripe is important for planning further imaging.

4. For oncologic conditions, MR is preferred over CT as it shows more internal detail in the uterus and ovaries.
