Integrated Problems Radiology: Amenorrhea

thyroidscanlab

How is the study agent administered? The agent is given orally, as a pill or capsule. After GI absorption, it is taken up by the thyroid gland. How is the camera positioned relative to the patient? Since this view looks pretty symmetric, the camera was most likely anterior in location, closest to the gland. The anterior view is displayed as if you are facing the patient, just like for a chest radiograph, so the left lobe of the gland is on the right side of the image. Most often, oblique views are also performed (not shown). What is the significance of increased uptake? It means that the gland is hyperfunctioning. Since the gland uptake looks pretty homogeneous, this is most consistent with Graves disease.
