Radiology Introduction

These cases are intended to explore the various modalities of imaging that can be used in each of four different organ systems:  The GI tract, the Gyn system, the Central Nervous system and the Chest.  The usefulness of each modality varies from one system to the next.

For each system, examples will be shown of the following types of studies:  radiographs, contrast studies, CT, MR, US and nuclear medicine.

For each system, you should think about what type of imaging is most APPROPRIATE, giving the most information for the least cost, and least risk to the patient.

A useful resource for determination of most appropriate imaging is the American College of Radiology 'Appropriateness Criteria'.
